Our Old Irish Cottage

This lovely old stone Irish cottage in Islandmagee, Co. Antrim is a wonderful base for couples to enjoy a luxurious stay. Set in a peaceful rural environment yet close to the small town of Whitehead. We are close to 3 golf courses, many beaches, cafes and restaurants.

These old crofter’s cottages were only built with 2 or 3 rooms and this restored, original cottage has just 3. They would have been used to house family, farm labourers and animals at close quarters. The historical trail for the cottage suggests there was a fowl house and piggery at one time! It is fun to think your bedroom may have housed animals at some time past!

Cloghfin Cottage, however, now contains everything you might need: underfloor heating for all year-round warmth and cosiness, modern windows keeping you warm but replicating the old style sash-windows of the original design, washer-dryer facilities, plenty of wardrobe and storage space and a kitchen with induction hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and small oven.

The owners are Andy and Janice who have travelled widely themselves. ‘We have stayed in many holiday cottages and batches around the world – we know how wonderful it is to realise that there is already a provision of cooking oil, salt and pepper, washing liquid for dishes and laundry …oh and toilet roll!’

We also provide towels, linen, coat hangers and even Tupperware. The owners live next door and are keen that you have a great stay so if you need anything you are encouraged to ask – ‘we had a mother and daughter staying and they had gotten takeaway pizzas at night but the daughter needed ketchup with everything so we had a knock on the door asking for ketchup – we totally understand as we have had the same experience 😊’

Historic Cottage Accommodation

The cottage is at least 300 years old. It has lots of original charm, in particular the head height of the upper barn door…. so mind your head on that one! The exposed wall in the upper room shows the original stone and an electronic picture frame shows guests what the refurbishment looked like and the surrounding area.

Our Irish cottage offers a double bedroom with automatic roof windows and blinds to allow you to watch the starry nights from your bed. We also have a small sofa bed in the lower room for children aged 5-11 years old.

We are within easy reach to activities such as stand up paddle boarding, horse riding, flower workshops, open gardens and swimming opportunities.

If you bring bicycles we have a safe storage facility for those and we can introduce to our friendly sheep, hens and show you the bee apiary where we produce our own Cloghfin Honey.

Your welcome basket may vary but typically will comprise of soda bread from the local bakery, some of our honey and eggs.

Our guests are generally couples looking for a cute place to stay and an opportunity to sample the delights of Islandmagee whether that means golfing, great to places to eat or visit or just swim in the sea.
